In review: August

As part of being more accountable to myself and keeping focused on the goals I’ve set for the year I’m aiming to check in monthly. This post is mainly for my own benefit…

My professional goals and progress toward them:

  • Letting Go – no update from last month really but actively noticing what I’m saying no to and checking in with myself on why. Progress: GREEN
  • financial – this has been good over the last month and some good things on the horizon so maintaining focus the key here for me. Longer term planning happening at the moment. Progress: AMBER
  • learning – the kids are teaching me mostly at the moment and while I can’t say they are on it all the time they are doing self-directed learning and excited to share what they find out. I’ve put markers in things I might like to look at for myself later in the year. Progress: AMBER
  • writing – I managed to keep pace with PopOptica and get something out most days. It is really lovely to see the feedback from readers and artists and to watch the site grow steadily. Progress: GREEN
  • health – this was a pretty great month. I kept up my Couch25k journey and by the end of August was running for 25 mins, 3 times a week. I didn’t even know it was possible for me to do that! I committed to yoga practice around this and really felt the benefit physically and mentally. I feel I’ve kick-started something and am in sight of a long-held goal: to run 5km comfortably. Progress: GREEN
  • reading – a little reading this month, mainly due to books for my birthday. I’ve stuck with non-fiction but going gently and being grateful for any escape into any book! Progress: AMBER
  • travel and adventures – I’ve been out for the first time since February and that felt like a big adventure. I’m keeping things local and lowkey as it doesn’t feel like the time yet to be stretching further. Progress: AMBER
  • volunteer and pro-bono work – writing for Popoptica counts on this roughly but my ability to donate financially to other causes has been greater than my ability to share time or skills. Progress: AMBER

SUMMARY

A good summer and still feeling good and motivated to see consistent work and focus paying off across so many of my goals for the year.
